When working for his fathers plumbing company in 1996, Alan received a call one day that he was closing the doors. It left him shocked. But even with this news, he was thinking about the next step for his future. “What can I do now?” Alan made the decision to pursue a new goal and started his own pipeline company.
“How did you find the perseverance to take on this challenge?”
“Sisu. I learned this from my mother.”
Sisu is a Finnish way of life, an action-oriented mindset and it essentially translates to “inner strength”. When confronted with an obstacle (like the one he found himself in), Sisu is what enables you to endure.
Alan had to make the best of his situation, “I sat in that phone booth every day calling in material orders and checking in”, pushing through day to day to get the job done. For himself, his family and his crew.
Boudreau Pipeline is built on Sisu and because our leader always has a CAN DO Attitude, it is an imperative characteristic of our culture!
In these trying times, we all could use the Sisu within!
